KaloBios pulls in $10M debt financing with option to borrow $5M more
KaloBios Pharmaceuticals Inc. raised $10 million, with an option to borrow an additional $5 million, in a debt financing with MidCap Financial SBIC LP. South San Francisco-based KaloBios will use the money to advance clinical development of its monoclonal antibody drugs, including Phase II trials of its severe asthma drug and a treatment for cystic fibrosis patients, and for general corporate purposes.

KaloBios aims its antibodies at an IPO, trio of trials
To that end, KaloBios said this week that it hired former BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. executive Jeff Cooper as its first chief financial officer. Cooper is charged with overseeing all that leads up to the South San Francisco company's initial public offering over the next 12 months, said President and CEO David Pritchard.

KaloBios Pharmaceuticals starts test of potential leukemia drug
KaloBios Pharmaceuticals Inc. started an early stage test of a treatment aimed at leukemia.
The South San Francisco business treated the first patient in a Phase I trial of KB004, a monoclonal antibody the company has developed. The drug targets the protein EphA3, which is significant in several types of cancer.
