WaferGen Biosystems Inc. brought in a consultant to “provide strategic guidance” and said its CEO and president, Alnoor Shivji, quit those jobs Wednesday as “part of his transition to a new role as a consultant.”
Shivji will stay at Fremont-based WaferGen (OTCBB: WGBS) as chairman and the company will pay him as a consultant. He’ll also get $262,500 in severance and his stock options have vested.
The company hired Steve Lombardi, former president and board member at Helicos BioSciences Corp. (Pink Sheets: HLCS), “to work with management and provide strategic guidance.”

WaferGen raises $30M in debt, equity financing
WaferGen Biosystems Inc. said Tuesday it raised more than $30 million in a private placement financing of equity and debt.
Fremont-based WaferGen (OTCBB:WGBS) said the financing is with three institutional life science investors: Greenwich, Conn.-based Great Point Partners LLC, Chicago-based Deerfield Management and New York-based Merlin Nexus.

WaferGen raises $30M in stock and debt sale
WaferGen Bio-systems Inc. agreed to raise $30.4 million in a private placement of both equity and debt.
The Fremont company (OTCBB: WGBS), which makes genomic analysis technology used in biology research and drug development, made the deal with Great Point Partners LLC, Deerfield Management and Merlin Nexus, as well as with some of its board members and executives.

WaferGen, NuGEN ink co-development deal
WaferGen Biosystems Inc. will partner with NuGEN Technologies Inc. to co-develop and market gene expression products, the companies said Monday.
Fremont-based WaferGen (OTCBB: WGBS) and San Carlos-based NuGEN did not disclose financial terms of the deal.
