Desmond-Hellmann: UCSF must be 'nimble and competitive'

An advisory council that will look at new ways of governing UCSF within the University of California system will meet by the beginning of 2013, an important early step as the institution seeks a degree of autonomy. University of California, San Francisco, Chancellor Susan Desmond-Hellmann told about 300 students, faculty, staff and visitors in her third annual “State of the University” address Tuesday that the move ensures a “nimble and competitive” UCSF in a world of health care reform and flat National Institutes of Health budgets.
